Taking its inspiration from the study and interpretation of images by Karl Blossfeldt – one of the greatest names in the German New Objectivity movement –, is the Spring/Summer 2009 collection by MORFOSIS.
The bold composition and exact aesthetics of Blossfeldt’s work can be seen in every single piece, in which the algid, hard style combines with the desire to satisfy every practical demand.
So the soft, balanced lines and geometric forms full of photographed natural subjects, become the pure, rigorous cuts of the dresses and give life to the modern volumes of the coats. The use of padding, from the shoulders to the hems, mixes with the fluid, more lightweight movement of the silk jackets and dresses.
The resulting shape is dynamic and neat at the same time, combining lightness and weight, weaving shine and opaque, showing the desire for preciousness and practicality even in the choice of materials and colours.
Contrast is sought and found in the combination of fabrics: fluid satins and barely there chiffons, full bodied, stiff duchess satin and hi-tech cottons with a silky hand feel in soft, muted, shades mix with the dusty, subtly coloured prints, which mirror the non-colours of faded photos from the 1930s.
This collection aims at conceptual elegance and soft, delicate, refined femininity.

La forte composizione e la rigorosa estetica della ricerca di Blossfeldt sono riscontrabili in ogni singola proposta, in cui lo stile algido e severo si sposa con l’aspirazione ad assecondare ogni esigenza pratica. Così le linee equilibrate e “morbide” e le forme geometriche e piene dei soggetti naturali fotografati, diventano i tagli rigorosi e puri degli abiti e danno vita ai moderni volumi dei capi spalla. I giochi delle imbottiture, che vanno dalle spalline agli orli, si mescolano ai fluidi e più leggeri movimenti degli abiti e delle casacche in seta.
La figura proposta, mossa ed ordinata insieme, combina leggerezza e peso, trame lucide e opache, manifestando il desiderio di preziosità e praticità anche nella scelta dei materiali e dei colori. Il contrasto è ricercato e trovato nell’abbinamento dei tessuti: fluidi rasi e impalpabili chiffon, corpose e sostenute duchesse e tecnici cotoni dalla mano serica, dai toni pacati e cipriati, si amalgamano con le stampe dai colori polverosi e sfumati, che riprendono i ‘colori non colori’ delle foto anni ’30 trascolorate dal tempo.
